Assigning technicians

Assigning is how a job gets from your screen onto somebody's phone. It also decides whose numbers the work counts toward in payroll, commission and the technician leaderboard, so it's worth doing properly rather than "we'll sort it in the morning".

1. Assign on the job

The job builder has a second Search by name box, below the customer picker. That's the technician assignment.

The job detail page has the same thing, split into Select salesperson and Select employees. Two separate fields on purpose: the person who sold it and the person doing the work are often different, and commission versus technician performance need to be tracked separately.

2. Employee Scheduling

On the Schedule, this sets each person's working days and hours. It's the availability layer: who could take a job at 8am Thursday.

Setting this up first makes dispatch much less error-prone, because you stop assigning work to someone who isn't in that day.

3. Who you can assign

Only people with a Flyra login appear in the picker. Add them under Settings > Team, where you also choose their role.

This is the practical reason shared logins hurt: if three technicians share one account, every job is assigned to the same person and your technician leaderboard, payroll and quality checks are all meaningless.

Tips and gotchas

  • Salesperson and technician are different fields. Fill both when they're different people.
  • Set availability before dispatching. Otherwise you'll assign work to someone who's off.
  • One login per person. Assignment data is the whole basis of payroll and rankings.
  • Unassigned jobs still sit on the Schedule, which is how work quietly goes undone. Check the pending counter.
